Dallas ISD Student’s Commercial Refrigeration Internship
In partnership with Dallas ISD, RSI was able to provide a refrigeration internship to a high school student this summer. Our intern, Jason, recently wrapped up his internship in the beginning of August. During his time at RSI, Jason learned about the industry by helping out in many different departments including warranty, accounting, I.T., and inventory. He even got to visit a few job sites with PM Supervisor, Mark Montgomery.
“I learned many interesting things about this industry, but if I had to choose the most interesting, it would be learning about its high demand,” Jason said. “The high demand shows that this industry is important and crucial for the operation and maintenance of many food companies.”
He finds the future of the industry interesting due to how much it impacts everyone. As the average technician gets closer to retirement age and not as many young technicians enter the field, Jason said he is concerned if the industry will be able to supply the high demand.
“If this trend continues, this industry will be in danger as there will be less workers,” Jason said. “In addition, many restaurants would also be in jeopardy as there’d be less people to fix and maintain their equipment. This would also impact the customer as their favorite restaurant may not be able to operate due to damaged or poorly maintained equipment.”
Jason’s favorite part of his internship at RSI was meeting and interacting with everyone at RSI. He said he was able to form great relationships and everyone from office staff to technicians treated him nicely.
“The group of people here seem so close together,” Jason said. “Even though I was here for a short amount of time, it felt like I was part of the team.”
Jason has started his senior year of high school, where he is looking forward to graduation and making memories. Thank you to everyone who helped make Jason’s internship a successful one. We can’t wait to see what his future holds!
