Setting Your Ice Machine Install up for Success
Refrigerated Specialist Inc. (RSI) President, Scott Hester shared his ice machine install do’s and don’ts with Food Equipment Reports (FER).
Setting your ice machine up for success with a good install is important for its future service life. Mishandling the installation of your ice machine can cause issues later and even void your warranty from the start. So, it is important to get it all right from the start to save you trouble in the long run.
The tips and tricks Scott shared can help operators set up their ice machine for success. These include selecting the right condensing unit, getting a local water analysis, and not installing the machine in a problematic location. Additionally, on the topic of problematic locations, Scott gives insight on ice machine placement in businesses like sandwich chains.
“Sandwich chains where they bake lot of bread or use a lot of cornmeal have issues with yeast growth and slime in their ice machines,” Hester told FER. “This can be minimized by placing ice machines farther from the source but [still] will require more regular cleaning than in a more sanitary setting where not a lot of bread is baked.”
